EMPLOYMENT SERVICE

We make the job connection”

The Employment Unit was instituted specifically for the ease of meeting employer/job seeker needs. We make the connection between jobseekers and employers.

Offices are strategically located in the North and South of the country for easy accessibility.

The services of the Employment Unit are at no cost to employers or jobseekers, offering over employment agencies.

The EU assists employers with finding the right fit to meet their staffing needs. Potential candidates are pre-screened and assessed for educational, skills and work-related competencies. Employers’ requests for staff are carefully matched with suitable candidates, and shortlisted candidates are referred for interview and assessment.

Farm Programme

Employment beyond our borders!

This is one of the Units’ most popular and successful initiatives. The Farm Programme involves the temporary recruitment and selection of workers for varying periods throughout the year:  three months to six months; and two years. Practical and technical knowledge is enhanced from this foreign exposure.

The Employment Unit partners and participates in workshops and seminars locally, regionally and internationally, to gain ideas on best practices.

How the Service Operates

Forms are issued and returned to the Department of Labour to be processed with all relevant documents.

The Employment Unit contacts applicants to advise them of the date, time and place of their interview.

Successful candidates are screened for criminal records. If security checks are cleared, then candidates are informed of the date scheduled for medical.

After medical is completed and workers are found to be in good health, international security checks are carried out by the High Commission of Canada. Subsequently, workers are placed with an employer and then called to an appointment at the Visa Application Centre (VAC) to have their biometrics done. This involves the applicants having their photograph and fingerprints taken electronically, and eyes scanned.

Applications are submitted for the issuance of the visa at the VAC when the biometrics are taken.

After visas are issued, workers are prepared for flight and dispatched to their various employers.
